Persona de la semana (parte 2)

In our last "Persona de la semana Parte 1" posting episode, my topic (Michelle Malkin) caused severe seizures and abnormal behaviour amongst my liberal friends. Quaker Dave in particular had his Truth-Pain voodoo doll at the ready and was deathly afraid of the bad mojo he may have inspired by his copious rants against Ms. Malkin. Since my aim is to illuminate important persons of today's socio-political village, I just had to throw the left a healthy bone to munch on...., I hereby present:

George Soros

Many facts and myths surround this billionaire international financier. Loved by the right when he was helping Reagan and Bush 41 debacle the Soviet empire and its stranglehold of eastern European countries, yet loathed by the current Neo-Conservatives for funding liberal groups such as Move-on. org and others of their ilk. It seems he has won both praise and scorn of both sides of the spectrum depending of course what mission he fronted at a particular time.
Below are some wide ranging links, both of flattery and disdain that I have gathered for your evening read. I confess I knew very little of him, ... mostly what Limbaugh and other right wing radio pundits had raised. I've studied plenty of additional information since then. I hope you do to.
I report,... you decide.

i will check out soros- i have already checked out malkin. see my previous comments about her. limbaugh and his ilk are also mean spirited and bigoted- and what little i do agree with them on- is lost by the aforementioned traits.

... since you brought it up, what do you consider "mean-spirited"? I've heard both left and right wing pundits and or commentators use that quite a lot...Not to say I don't know what the classic definition is, but I wonder if being diametrically opposed to their view makes you recieve their message as "mean" when its just against the grain of your desire hence the emotional reaction. I listen to a left-wing bomb-thrower here in the bay area on weekends, and believe me, he makes anybody in the right look like Pee Wee,.. yet I don't think he is mean per se,... I just don't let my sensitivies get grated by his manner. Maybe I'm just too clinical in my listening habits, I don't know,... I'm really curious about this. It seems we are just a bit over-sensitized at time.

You do realize that Rush Limabugh, Bill O'Reilly, and the rest of the Far Right Corporate Media think this guy is the Devil incarnate, right?

Truth-Pain,
Now if I could just get Malkin and Soros to have dinner with me.

Maybe a food fight would break out. LOL.

tooling around malkin's site- i see a lot of jabs at the left(fine) and i see alot of anti-muslim, pro-jewish/christian posts. fine. i just don't see why either side- and i don't really go for any ultra left sites because of the same thing- has to be so mean. i realize that i am not explaining myself well- it is getting close to my sleepy time :) the crux of what i am saying is- the tone in which all of this is said- the vitriol that is put forth- it amazes me. people like malkin or limbaugh hate me. they don't know me- and they hate me because i don't believe them 100%. i don't listen to the left- so i have no comparison- but i am sure it is the same. it isn't about sensitivities- it is the lack of humanity and civility that is the prevailing mentality of the day. it is poison for the soul pure and simple- and that is why i don't listen to it on radio- and i do a scan on the net- just to keep current. i try to keep it to a minimum on my site because it isn't productive and it is hurtful. too many people are doing the 'us against them' thing whether it be right against left or christian/jew versus muslim. why do we need an enemy? why are all of us fighting each other so hard? why isn't anyone asking the questions? there is a reason that the right who are in power now have created the situation that they hate us on the left. they started it when clinton took office. i don't know why. maybe it is my perspective but things turned ugly when clinton/gore won- and they the repubs took the congress. politics were nasty and now americans are hating other americans because of ideaology. i am only going on in such length because you let me- you who lean right and me- who leans left. we meet on common ground to talk about differences. maybe we don't accomplish much- but it sure is harder to hate someone you have gotten to know as a person. that is what is mean spirited and bigoted- the country is so busy downing each other- no one is stopping to ask why the politicians want us to do it in the first place.

yeah.... I do, but then the left thinks Malkin is as well... I HAD to be fair and balanced, right?

Dardin Soto said...

Sorry.. the "fair and balanced reply" was for QD, not AOW :)

Dardin Soto said...

AOW: Thats PRECISELY why I would welcome it. It would be a Must-see-TV moment to see those two, lovingly looking at each others eyes,... Sinatra playing "my way".... right before the pies start flyin'..

Dardin Soto said...

QD: Yes, I do realize that. Is a matter of fact one of the reasons I ventured to find out about the guy was the major pounding he gets from Limbaugh... I figured anybody on his radar screen has to be loved by the left....... hence my posting. The funny thing is that although I try to keep these personality postings light and cheezy, I am really getting massively educated on a lot of what is beneath the media image sheen they have (or don't have. I may do two of these puppies a week.

Sinatra's "My Way" would be the perfect background music. You could follow up with Springsteen's "No Retreat, No Surrender." LOL.

c'mon on now tp- there is no light and cheesey in politics :) although it pains me that you listen to limbaugh, i admire your person of the week segment because it truly seems that your interest is to learn- as well as put out info. kudos. i actualy agreed with bill o'reilly's column in the paper today about ann coulter. he said that she is shooting herself in the foot with the short term gains of her 'shock and awe' scorched earth approach to things. i wish that the left would stop reacting to every word she says- although with the topic being the 9/11 widows it was hard not to- and she wouldn't get nearly as much publicity as she does. she is also poison for the soul.

billie said...

tp- did i miss george soros on moveon.org or was that your attempt to tweak the left?

Dardin Soto said...

AOW: I may have to get the Sprinsteen song,... i have not heard too much of him since "Born to Run"... :)

Dardin Soto said...

Betmo: You think it pains YOU that I listen to Limbaugh? you should listen to Ray Taliafero here in the Bay Area,... Limbaugh is cake compared to that mellon-head :)
About the O'reilly column, I think you hit it on the nail. If you listen to people not of your spectrum, sometimes they will have a reasoned opinion that you find yourself agreeing with. I listen to Limbaugh because 1) To me, is the jackie gleason of radio, very bombastic and loud.. yet funny to my own sense of humor, and even though I challenge 70% of what he says, I also agree with the other %30%. And 2) Because I began listening when he started out here in Sacramento in the late 80's, so Its habitual for me. But the same can be said for Taliafero,... I agree a little less with him but If get past the fire and brimstone he makes points that make me take notice. Heck in my afternoon runs home I swich between Laura Ingraham, NPR and Bill Press... back and forth. I guess I'm just a gluton for punishment.
As to why I put Move-on in there? :)... you think I like to tweak the left?... C'mon!
Seriously, I know he invested $5 million in the movement and another $70 or so million in trying to defeat Bush in 2004, hence the reason "the left loves his money" :)

Dardin Soto said...

p.s. to Betmo:
I still owe you a reply on the Malkin thing... let me get back to ya'...

billie said...

leftover comment from the previous post regarding support of bush- it doesn't matter to me as a left leaner if you all support bush or not- what matters to me is that you continue to support the movement and the party. bush is the figurehead for all of this nonsense. we would be naive to think that it will go away when he leaves office. what worked so well once will work again- according to rovian strategy. that is what is the spur in my saddle.

oh C'mon Sappho! like you guys (and gals) don't have your earbuds on 10 listening to O'reilly, Malkin, Hannity and Coulter?, how is it that you get the rapid fire ammo on your blogs, from hearsay? 3rd person anectodes? subliminal reception?.... (Truth-Pain laughing hysterically :)

Seriously,... I HAVE to listen to Limbaugh. This 1/2 ton-a-fun man has a direct line to the oval orifice,... how the hell can I calibrate my noggin' unless I listem to both ends of the hate and discontent?... dont you?

billie said...

actually, my mother listens to limbaugh and hannity and tells me all about them. i refuse to listen. i really try to limit my forays into the hate right and hate left. all these folks do is try to be as manipulative and confrontational as possible. i have no patience but i think my mother likes the drama. she thinks that she is gathering intel for the blog:) she is and she feels important.
