Publius of Protect and Defend wrote a posting of a subject that I think needs bearing. What if our southern neighbor countries were all of European descent and culture?, and were mostly caucasian?.... What if Europe itself was there and not Mexico....Think of the possibilities and ramifications as it applies to today's socio-politics. Is it really Illegal immigration most of America is harping about? or is it the TYPE of illegal aliens we don't approve of?.... Would the cross-border problems of health, drugs, language etc be as blatant? or would they be more palatable...
I'll shut up now, read the piece and make up your own mind...

i read the post- and it is a relevent point. i personally think the immigration thing is a smoke screen so that all of the corruption in the beltway is overlooked. the immigration problem has been around for decades- otherwise there wouldn't be millions of illegal folks here already. not to mention that americans are targeting the mexicans- what about the other central and south americans? what about the cubans or haitians? what about the europeans or eastern europeans? i live in a small community in upstate new york that is a microcosm of larger cities. we have a large immigrant population here comprised of eastern europeans, southeast asians, blacks, hispanics- you name it we got it. we are a hub for upstate new york to new york city so we see many types of people. i think that a large percentage of the population is afraid of these folks. i don't want to ramble too much but i will end by saying- we need to enforce our current laws. knee jerk reactions in an election year do not good decisions make. fences, tunnels- ridiculous. we need a plan- and until we have a good plan- we need to enforce the plan we have.
You have it very right, Betmo. The policy polio begins in the State Department and the arcaic policies of who gets in that are never questioned and maybe not in the forefront of the American discourse. I feel sorry for Mexicand in that they are the poster children for Illegan immigration,... it is an American pastime to demonize something in order to give the issue a face and a side. That GWB has been helping Vicente prop up his fledging Government all along. The theory has some merit. Fox is -for all intents and purposes- a moderate in the Mexican political spectrum. He falls and a REAL leftist/revolutionary junta takes over feeding on the anger of youth unable to land a good job... that is not the best scenario for us, a real-honest to goodness marxist sympatico in Mexico City's throne. I don't believe in too many black helcopter theories,.. but this story has legs. I'm already snoopin'...
